The male is plain dark brown with the female being slightly paler with and orange spot near the tails. The underside in both sexes, have a white line across each wing forming a 'W' and has reddish-orange bands near the edge of the hindwings.

Where to sight species

It prefers woodland clearings and edges, small copses and elm trees. Can be found on bramble flowers.
