This butterfly is an orange-red with black markings, edged with blue cresents around the wing tips. The underside is almost black. Both the male and the female are alike.

Where to sight species

Found wherever there are suitable flowers. A particular favourite is Buddleia amd Sedum. Can be found in many places across the Island, and is a frequent visitor to many gardens.

Ventnor, Nettlecombe, Limerstone, Brighstone.
