This butterfly is dark brown with cream coloured spots and has several cream ringed dark brown eye spots. It also has a fine cream cresents on the outer wing edges. The underside is a marbled light brown. Both the female and the male are alike.

Where to sight species

Prefers shady woodland, although can be seen in shady parts of the garden.

Nettlecombe, Cranmore, Alverstone, many other areas.
